Job Overview
The Smart Hands Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining the efficient and reliable operation of the Data Centre infrastructure. This position involves providing on-site technical support and remote hands services to ensure optimal performance and availability of servers, networking equipment and related systems within the Data Centre.
Key Responsibilities

Hardware Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform hardware installation and maintenance tasks on servers, storage devices, switches, routers and other Data Centre equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly to minimise downtime and disruptions

Remote Hands Support
- Respond to remote requests from customers, Data Centre staff or remote IT teams to perform tasks such as rebooting servers, swapping out components and connecting/disconnecting cables
- Respond to alerts and incidents, taking corrective actions as necessary

Rack and Stack
- Install, cable and organise equipment within server racks, ensuring proper power and network connectivity
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to Data Centre operations

Documentation and Reporting
- Update and maintain detailed documentation of all activities, including work orders, incident reports and equipment configuration
- Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, including serial numbers, specifications and locations
- Generate regular reports on equipment performance and maintenance tasks

Procurement & Inventory Oversight
- Manage the procurement and availability of spare parts, stationery, consumables and uniforms for operations teams.
- Maintain an updated inventory tracking system to avoid shortages or excess stock.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of operational materials.

Security and Access Control
- Assist in maintaining the security of the Data Centre following established protocols and procedures

Vendor and Supplier Coordination
- Collaborate with external vendors and contractors for equipment servicing, repairs and installations
- Assist in managing vendor relationships and procurement of necessary parts and supplies

Environmental Management
- Monitor environmental conditions, including temperature and humidity, and take actions to maintain optimal conditions within the Data Centre

Support for Change Management
- Assist in implementing changes in the Data Centre environment, such as equipment upgrades or expansions
- Ensure changes are executed smoothly with minimal impact on operations

Emergency Response
- Be part of the emergency response team and assist in addressing critical incidents or outages
- Follow established disaster recovery and Business Continuity Plans
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is a plu

At least 3-5 years of experience in Data Centre operations, maintenance, or a similar technical rol

Strong technical skills and knowledge of Knowledge of server hardware, networking and Data Centre infrastructure

Proficiency in using monitoring and diagnostic tool

Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate technical information clearly

Basic knowledge of security and compliance standards in the Data Centre industry

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
